(Digital Itla) A bizarre incident occurred at the World Cup when a referee got injured, forcing the match between the USA and Australia to be halted for a few minutes. During the Group D match, 45-year-old German match referee Felix Zwayer collapsed on the field after suffering a muscle cramp during extra time.
US forward Folarin Balogun attempted to ease the cramps by stretching the referee's leg. Later, the FIFA medical staff, fourth official Katia Garcia, and the linesman also rushed onto the field. Australian midfielder Aiden O'Neill helped the referee as well. After a few minutes of medical attention, Zwayer managed to stand back up and resume the match. On this occasion, the American fans present in the stadium loudly applauded his resilience.
