Accused Waqas Munawar Staged Robbery Story After Losing Money in Gambling
Investigation Uncovers False Claim; Criminal Case Registered Against Accused
Bogus 15 Calls Waste Police Resources and Delay Help for Genuine Victims
Faisalabad: October 27 (DIGITAL ITLA) — Faisalabad Police, acting under the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain, arrested a man who staged a fake robbery attempt to conceal his gambling losses from his family.
According to details, the suspect, Waqas Munawar, placed a distress call to the Rescue 15 helpline claiming that two unidentified motorcyclists had snatched his cash and mobile phone. Upon receiving the report, Mansoorabad Police immediately rushed to the scene. However, a preliminary investigation revealed that no such incident had occurred. Police discovered that the caller had lost PKR 40,000 to 50,000 in gambling and fabricated the mugging story to mislead his family. The police registered a case and took the accused into custody.
Commenting on the incident, CPO Tanveer Hussain stressed that making hoax calls to the 15 helpline wastes valuable police resources and time. He emphasized that such bogus claims create hurdles for citizens in need of genuine emergency assistance, reassuring that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to mislead law enforcement agencies.
