In a tense knockout match played yesterday in Philadelphia, France defeated Paraguay 1-0. The decisive goal was scored by Mbappé through a successful penalty kick. With this goal, Mbappé has become the first player in FIFA World Cup history to score in three consecutive Round of 16 matches.
Additionally, he has now scored a total of 11 goals in the knockout stages of the World Cup, surpassing all other players. This marks his 7th goal in the current World Cup tournament, bringing him level with Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi as a top contender for the Golden Boot. With this victory, France has advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will face Morocco on July 9.
