(Digital Itla) The killer of a Pakistan Air Force captain has been arrested. IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi confirmed that Saad Abbasi, the killer of PAF Group Captain Asim Tariq, was apprehended within 9 hours of the incident.
Addressing a press conference alongside DIG Operations Javad Tariq, IG Islamabad stated that Saad Abbasi and a woman named Nimra worked together. The suspect wanted to forcefully take the woman to a park or another location against her will. The suspect had previously picked up the girl from her house twice.
Ali Nasir Rizvi mentioned that today, the suspect tried to take the girl somewhere else instead of her workplace. When she refused, an altercation ensued near Shaheen Chowk. Group Captain Asim Tariq, who was passing by from his office, witnessed the dispute and attempted to intervene. The suspect then approached the martyr's vehicle and opened fire on him.
He informed that 11 teams were formed for the suspect's arrest. Along with Safe City and digital surveillance, teams worked on physical feeds. Using Artificial Intelligence, the suspect's location and his change of shirt were tracked. Saad Abbasi had also taken another woman to Mianwali a month ago, a matter that was later settled through mediation.
He stated that the suspect attempted to escape by purchasing a ticket for a private bus service. Saad Abbasi kept his mobile phone switched off but kept his internet active via a private IP. The case will proceed based on the available evidence. Police generally do not heavily check those traveling with family; since a woman was riding on the motorcycle with the suspect, his weapon went undetected at checkpoints.
