Messi Smashes Another Record in World Cup History

04 July 2026

(Digital Itla) Argentina's captain, Lionel Messi, has reached yet another goal-scoring milestone in the history of the Football World Cup.

In a recent FIFA World Cup match, Argentina defeated Cape Verde 3-2 to secure a spot in the pre-quarterfinals. The captain found the back of the net once, while the winning third goal was scored during extra time off a corner kick delivered by Messi.

This marks his 7th goal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He also scored seven goals during the 2022 edition in Qatar. Messi remains the all-time top scorer in World Cups and, following the match against Cape Verde, became the first player in history to play 30 World Cup matches.

Messi has broken multiple records in the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine captain made football history by becoming the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches—a feat he achieved during Argentina's 3-1 victory against Jordan in their final Group J match.
