Notification for Additional Toll Tax on Vehicles Without M-Tag or Low Balance Suspended

04 July 2026

(Digital Itla) The notification regarding the collection of additional toll tax for vehicles without an M-Tag or with a low balance has been suspended.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the National Highway Authority's (NHA) notification dated May 30, 2025, which mandated a 50% additional toll tax for vehicles without an M-Tag or having an insufficient balance. The court directed the NHA not to collect the additional tax.

IHC Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir issued a two-page written order following a hearing on a petition challenging the extra toll collection. According to the order, the petitioner’s counsel argued that a 50% additional toll was being charged illegally and that the NHA has no legal authority to impose it.

The court has issued notices to the NHA and other respondents, directing them to submit written replies by August 3. The notification had been challenged in court by Advocate Jalal Haider.
