FIFA World Cup: England Secures Knockout Spot Ahead of Last Group Match
27 June 2026
(Digital Itla) England has guaranteed its advancement to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup without even playing its final group match. Having secured four points from their opening two matches, England has managed to secure its spot among at least the eight best third-placed teams.
England had kicked off their group stage spectacularly by defeating Croatia 4-2 in their opening match, followed by a goalless draw against Ghana in their second game. Meanwhile, Uruguay's defeat at the hands of Spain paved the way for England's advancement to the next stage. Although Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Paraguay also hold four points each, results across different groups have solidified the English team's position.
