China Introduces Dangerous and Advanced Portable Laser Weapon Named 'Lijian'

(Digital Itla) Powerful lasers are increasingly being used to defend against armed drones. A Chinese defense supplier has introduced a portable laser weapon that can allegedly target and shoot down drones in mid-air. According to the South China Morning Post, Harbin Xinguang Optic-Electronics Technology showcased this technology last week during a weapons exhibition in Beijing, which can be carried in a backpack.

Powerful lasers are being rapidly deployed for defense against armed drones because they are more effective and have a much lower cost per shot compared to conventional ammunition. Until now, anti-drone laser systems have been too heavy and impractical for a single individual to carry due to high energy requirements and complex cooling systems. The new portable 'Lijian' models (meaning 'Sharp Swords') use artificial intelligence to identify targets and have already been deployed at certain Chinese military installations.
