Lord’s Likely to Lose Hosting Rights for World Test Championship Final

23 June 2026

(Digital Itla) London: Lord's is likely to lose the hosting rights for the World Test Championship (WTC) final match. According to British media, following the pitch report of the England vs. New Zealand match at Lord's, its hosting of the WTC final has fallen into jeopardy. The ICC gave an "unsatisfactory" rating to the Lord's pitch used during the England-New Zealand Test, and the WTC final may now be moved to The Oval instead of Lord's.

British media states that a final decision has not yet been made. The ICC has granted England the hosting rights for WTC finals up until 2031. Despite the potential withdrawal of the WTC final hosting rights, Lord’s will still host two Test matches, as it is mandatory under the agreement with the ECB for Lord’s to get hosting rights for two Test matches.
