(Digital Itla) Experienced West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has achieved the honour of becoming the highest run-scoring batter in the history of T20 cricket. He secured this historic milestone by surpassing his compatriot Chris Gayle's record of 14,562 runs.
Pollard achieved this feat while playing an unbeaten innings of 100 runs for MI New York against Washington Freedom in America's Major League Cricket (MLC). This is only the second century of his T20 career; prior to this, he had scored a century in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2018. Chris Gayle had been the highest run-scorer in men's T20 cricket since March 28, 2014, and remained at the top of the list for 4,467 consecutive days. His 12-year reign finally came to an end at the hands of Pollard.
Having played 736 T20 matches so far, Pollard is also the player with the most matches in this format. He has become only the ninth batter to secure the number one position on the list of highest run-scorers in men's T20 cricket history. Chris Gayle was not only the first player from outside England and Australia to top the T20 runs list, but his dominance from 2014 to 2026 also spanned more than half the history of T20 cricket.
