(Digital Itla) Karachi: A severe measles outbreak has gripped the Sindh province, claiming the lives of 53 children, while over 2,000 children are currently suffering from the disease. Dozens of children have been admitted to various hospitals. According to reports, 2,000 children contracted measles in Sindh this year, and 53 lost their lives due to the illness during this period. Health experts are deeply concerned over the rising measles cases in Sindh and are urging parents to ensure their children receive preventive vaccinations.

Speaking to Samaa's special representative, renowned pediatrician Dr. Khalid Shafi stated that while 2,000 children were affected by measles across Sindh this year, a total of 96 children died nationwide, with 53 deaths in Sindh caused by complications arising from the disease. According to doctors, the primary reason behind the spread of measles in the province is the parents' failure to get their children vaccinated. Dr. Khalid Shafi emphasized that despite being a treatable and preventable disease, measles is spreading rapidly, and parents must get their children vaccinated. It is worth noting that measles is an infectious disease that mostly affects children, especially those who are unvaccinated. Initial symptoms include a cold, runny nose, cough, and rashes. Measles severely impacts immunity and can prove fatal if it becomes severe.
