Severe Storm and Rain Cause Devastation in India, Sparking New Controversy
14 June 2026
(Digital Itla) A sudden weather shift has caused widespread destruction across various regions of Northern India, bringing heavy winds, dust storms, and thunderstorms that disrupted daily life. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Saturday in Delhi and adjoining areas, warning of further unstable weather conditions. Meteorologists attribute this situation to a circulating weather system that initially formed over central Pakistan and adjoining areas before spreading to northwestern India. The combination of this system with moisture-laden winds destabilized the atmosphere, resulting in severe dust storms and thunder.
Meanwhile, a new debate erupted on social media after several Indian TV anchors made sarcastic remarks, claiming that "the storm came from Pakistan." Reports indicate that wind speeds reached 70 to 90 km/h in multiple areas, leading to uprooted trees, disrupted traffic, and general blockages. However, the stormy weather did offer temporary relief from the intense heat and humidity. The meteorological department stated that intermittent rain and relatively cooler winds may continue over the next few days, keeping temperatures lower than usual.
