Retaliation for Helicopter Crash: US Launches Airstrikes on Iran; Iran Targets US Military Base in Bahrain
10 June 2026
(Digital Itla) Following the targeting of an American Apache helicopter by Iran, the United States has initiated retaliatory strikes against Iranian territories. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the US military has targeted specific positions, striking Iran's Qeshm Island and Sirik. In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM confirmed that these operations are a direct response to the downing of the US Apache helicopter.
Iranian news agencies confirmed the attacks, reporting loud explosions in the eastern regions of the Hormozgan province, Sirik, Qeshm Island, and Bandar Abbas. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US military is conducting operations against Iran following the alleged downing of the highly advanced American aircraft, which had been patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview with ABC News, Trump stated, "I think it's very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we are responding right now." The US President added that he believes the response must be "very harsh and very powerful," though he withheld further specific details regarding the nature, targets, or exact scale of the ongoing operations. Both pilots of the downed helicopter are reported safe.
According to Iranian media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed a decisive counter-response, and Iranian forces have reportedly launched missiles toward US military bases in Bahrain. State media later noted that following the initial strikes on southern Iran (targeting Qeshm Island, Sirik, Jask, and Koh Mubarak), the airspace has cleared and the situation has stabilized back to normal with no immediate signs of fresh strikes. Previously, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister had denied involvement in the helicopter downing during a conversation with Al Jazeera, stating Tehran had no connection to the incident.
