New Study on the Astonishing Intelligence of Octopuses: Memory and Learning Capabilities Closer to Humans

06 June 2026

(Digital Itla) A recent scientific study has revealed fascinating insights about the marine animal, the octopus, leaving experts astonished. According to the research, octopuses possess not only the ability to solve complex problems but can also retain their experiences to make better choices in the future. Scientists observed in experiments that these creatures alter their responses by remembering specific paths, objects, and even human behaviors.

Experts state that the nervous system of an octopus is highly distinct from ordinary fish because, besides their brain, they possess "localized intelligence" in their arms, enabling them to multitask simultaneously. The study also revealed that octopuses are capable of using simple tools and occasionally utilize their surroundings in extraordinary ways to hide or evade predators. According to scientists, these findings indicate that intelligence is not exclusive to mammals and that marine creatures also possess complex cognitive abilities, opening new avenues for understanding evolutionary science.
