Washington (Digital Itla): US President Donald Trump has stated that he has secured guarantees from Iran that it will not develop nuclear weapons, amid reports that he has sent proposals with strict conditions to Tehran. According to the French news agency AFP, changes to the conditions could further extend the agreement to formally end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which both sides have been trying to achieve despite conflicting rhetoric and armed conflict. The New York Times and Axios reported on Saturday that President Donald Trump has sent a new agreement framework to Iran containing 'stricter conditions'; however, it was not immediately clear which points were modified. President Donald Trump says his priority in any deal remains stopping Iran from building any kind of nuclear weapons and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump on Fox News on Saturday, he said, "The only one guarantee I want is that there will be no nuclear weapons, and they have agreed to that, which was quite interesting." However, Tehran has previously expressed skepticism over President Trump's claims, and both sides appear to be quite far apart regarding their priorities. Trump met with national security advisors in the White House Situation Room on Friday, but no final decision regarding the agreement was announced. Prior to this meeting, he stated that he was preparing for a "final decision."
