Thallium Scan Machine Out of Service for 2 Years at FIC Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Nov 7 (Digital Itla) — A key diagnostic facility for cardiovascular patients at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) has remained out of service for nearly two years, causing immense hardship to cardiac patients across the region, sources revealed on Saturday.

The Thallium Scan—essential for assessing myocardial blood flow, identifying artery blockages, and evaluating heart condition post-angiography or bypass surgery—is unavailable at private labs in the city, leaving PINUM Hospital as the sole operational facility. Consequently, hundreds of patients visiting FIC daily from Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, and Chiniot face severe delays. Despite multiple visits by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, the issue remains unresolved.

When contacted, FIC Medical Superintendent Dr. Nadeem Akhtar clarified that the machine was not broken but had completed its operational lifespan, adding that the provincial government will provide a new machine. Citizens have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene immediately and restore this vital diagnostic service.
